Project Update: Building in April

Published March 14, 2011

From Blake Clark, Executive Director and Project Manager

Groundbreaking is scheduled for April! I can’t thank everyone enough who have contributed to this moment. Steel Structures in Nairobi has already finished fabricating the steel skeleton and the helical pier foundation system is in route. It will all come together in Jalle with two weeks of whirlwind of activity to beat the seasonal rains. If all goes as planned, the school’s form on the horizon will be a powerful symbol of hope and peace as the world officially welcomes its newest state in June.

In addition to countless individual donors who collectively have given nearly $120,000 to make this areality, I would also like to thank our partners who have gone above and beyond – and then some. Steel Structures Kenya who did our fabrication work. Heli-Pile in Denver, CO supplied us with our state-of-the-art foundation system, technical consulting, and a one-of-a-kind installation tool. Nile Cargo Carrier Inc in Newton Ma who arranged for logistics and shipping of nearly 10,000 lbs of steel half-way around the world. And Global Development Co who will be handling construction in Jalle. Onbehalf of Rebuild Sudan I look forward to our continued partnerships!

We are $20,000 short of what is needed for phase I and we are already making plans for phase II this fall. Your financial support is crucial in helping Rebuild Sudan complete the school and continue build our capacity to serve the people of Jalle.
