Katie Rivers, Board President of Rebuild South Sudan will share at Congregational Church San Mateo about the challenges her organization faces as they work with one rural South Sudanese village to overcome the devastating effects of war even while war rages on. Rebuild South Sudan is dedicated to empowering and encouraging the South Sudanese through economic development and education. Rebuild South Sudan holds out hope, in partnership with the South Sudanese, that conflict can be transformed, that a traumatized nation can find a way forward, that peace in South Sudan is possible.

Katie lives in San Francisco with Church of the Sojourners and has been working with Rebuild South Sudan since 2011. Her own experiences of loss, grief, and moving forward drive her to support a nation in need of deep healing and restoration. Michael Kuany’s story has taught her about struggle, adversity, and hope. Her professional background in office administration, sales, and marketing combined with a passion for communications and community development have equipped her with the necessary tools to further pursue the causes of peace and education in South Sudan.
